Gening AI Review: No Login, No Renewal, Not Much Polish

I still think that is a fair job description for it. Some apps want to be your partner of three years; Gening wants to be the thing you open on a snow day, and it does that job better than most of the polished ones do theirs.

What sets it apart today is how little it asks of you. Guest chat works without sign-up, with 5 credits to start, and the login is a passwordless code sent by email. Logged-in users get 30 free credits a day at 1 credit per message, and the yearly pack is cheap at $47.88 for 24,000 credits.

The payment side is the odd part. Credit packs are sold as G2A gift-card keys, with crypto through NOWPayments as the other route, and every purchase is one-time with no subscription or auto-renewal.

I like the no-renewal part a lot. I like buying a gift card from a key marketplace to pay a chat site a lot less.

The phone app is new and barely rated. It was released on 19 December 2024, and it holds a 3.0 average from 8 ratings. Eight ratings is not a verdict; it is a dinner party where two guests left early.

So my advice is simple. Use Gening AI for free, for fun and for short scenes, and keep your money in your pocket until the site decides what it wants to be. If you want a companion that remembers you, or a place to build a long story, look elsewhere; the site's own features point in six directions at once, and memory is not one of the directions it chose.

• The front door is the easiest in the category: guest chat, then a passwordless code login with no forms.
• The free credits reset every day and cover casual chat, but they never pile up.
• Paying means a G2A gift-card key or crypto, one-time only, with no auto-renewal to police.
• Images, voice and face swap now live on the sister site Vidguru, not in the chat window.
• The terms are thin: no company address, no governing law found, and narrow refund rights.

The plan never changed. The free daily credits carried the whole period, and no money went to Gening at any point. The monthly pack was weighed and put down again, and the pricing section explains the math that did it.

The cast was small. One stern Victorian librarian did most of the talking, with a knight's portrait and a voice sample as side projects. The librarian gets her own scenes later: the memory section, the image section and one book cover that still makes me laugh.

It ended the way flea-market finds end. Fun on the day, then back in the box, and nobody feels bad about it. I'd call that the honest result for a toy, and I think Gening would call it a win if it were being honest too.

A note on what is current. The site's check on 23 September 2026 used the web version with a free account. The checkout on that check was stopped at the invoice, and nothing was paid.

So the two halves need to be read apart. How the chats felt, how the images looked and what the voice sounded like all come from January 2025. What the plans cost, what the terms say and what the chat offers today all come from September 2026.

I'd rather say that plainly than blend the two into a review that sounds fresher than it is. Think of it as a colour grade with the reference frame left in the corner.

If you only read one other part, make it the free tier section. That is where Gening is strongest, and it is where the numbers have moved most.

I'd put it this way to a friend. The first four seconds on Gening are the best four seconds in the category, and everything after them is a matter of taste.

An app that trusts you with a chat before it knows your name is betting that the product will sell itself. For the first few minutes, Gening wins that bet.

Where Gening lives and what it promises

The site is live at www.gening.ai. Its page title reads "Gening AI - Free AI Character Chat & Roleplay | No Sign-up". That title is a promise, and the site keeps it: Gening can be used as a guest with no account at all.

The interface comes in English, Chinese, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Arabic. That is a wide spread for a site this rough, and I read it as a sign of where the traffic comes from rather than a sign of care.

There is a phone app on one side only. The iOS app is listed as "Gening AI - AI Characters Chat", App Store id 6736874697.

No Google Play app was found. Android users get the website, which, given how quick the guest door is, is not much of a loss.

Signing in: a code, a checkbox and nothing else

When a guest does decide to log in, the modal offers "Continue with Google" or email. The email route is passwordless: a 6-digit one-time code goes to your inbox. A passwordless login gets my vote on principle, since a password that does not exist cannot leak.

The code step runs through Kinde, on geningai.kinde.com, and the page is marked "Powered by Kinde". The code is valid for 2 hours, and on the site's check the code email arrived within about 1 minute. Two hours is generous; I'd rather have that than a code that expires while the email is still in the spam queue.

I think a checkbox is the honest minimum rather than a real gate, and Gening does not pretend otherwise. It is the same click every site in the category asks for, placed where it at least cannot be missed.

What a new account looks like

A new account gets an automatic name: "Guest_" followed by a number. It reads like a hotel wifi network, and I'd change it the moment the profile page loads. The profile page has an editable Name field for exactly that.

The profile also shows a numeric UID for the account. It has a Logout button, which sounds too obvious to mention until you remember how many apps hide theirs three menus deep.

I like this flow more than its looks suggest. No questionnaire, no personality quiz, no swipe through twelve interests; you arrive, you chat, and the account catches up with you later. The price of that speed is that the site knows almost nothing about you, which, as the terms section will show, is also the safest arrangement.

My advice for the first night: start as a guest, spend the few guest credits on one character, and only log in when you know you will come back the next day. The login is quick enough that there is no reason to do it first.

Most character cards show a chat count of "0". I read that two ways. Either the catalogue is huge and mostly unvisited, or the counter is decorative; neither makes the 100,000+ figure mean much.

The home page also has Recent Chats, My Characters and My Likes tabs. They do the basic job of getting you back to what you started, and I'd use Recent Chats as the real home page once you have a character you like.

The tag bar

Discovery runs on a long bar of tag filters: New, Hot, Female, Male, Realistic, Anime, Girlfriend, Boyfriend, MalePOV, FemalePOV, Dominant, Submissive, LGBTQ+, MLM, Romantic, Drama, Original Character, Multiple Characters, Size Difference, Scenario, Gentle Dom, Fantasy, Corruption, Friend, Mature, Wholesome and Roommate. The same bar also carries one age-themed tag that I will not repeat here; the content settings section deals with it.

That list tells you who the library is for better than the marketing does, and a Gening AI gf is only one of the things on offer. Half of it is genre and half of it is appetite, and there is no filter for the thing I'd want most, which is "characters someone has actually talked to".

What else sits on the shelves

The library also carries a stripper character and a run of step-family characters. A navigation image on the chat page pointed to a character framed as the user's own mother. Browse shows more characters whose names label them as step-parents, one of them with the label misspelled.

None of that is unusual for a community library, and I'd not pretend to be shocked. What it says is that nobody is curating the shelves; the library is a flea market where every stall is set up by a stranger and the organiser only sells the tables.

For a reader, the practical upshot is simple. Use the hover preview, open a handful of cards, and expect to do your own sorting. The good characters exist, but the site will not point you to them.

The Name field allows up to 30 characters. There is a gender setting, set to Female by default. The default says more about the audience than any survey would, and it takes one click to change.

The main text fields are generous. Description allows up to 1000 characters, Persona up to 500 and First message up to 1000. That is enough for a proper sketch of a character, though not for a lorebook.

The Categories are Anime, Realistic, Girlfriend and Boyfriend, so a Gening AI boyfriend is as standard a build as a girlfriend. Visibility can be Public or Private. I'd keep any first draft on Private until the preview chat stops surprising you in the wrong way.

The create page also has avatar and style settings, plus a setting that switches between safe and adult content. That setting sits on the character, not on the user, which matters for the content settings section later.

The limits are worth a thought before you start. A thousand characters is a couple of short paragraphs, so I'd let the description carry the look and the attitude, the Persona field carry the rules, and the first message carry the scene.

The advanced drawer

An Advanced section adds a Scenario field of up to 1000 characters and an Example Dialogue field of up to 500. Example dialogue is where most of a character's voice really lives, so I'd spend the effort there and keep the description short.

The marketing copy adds that you can "clone existing characters". That is a sensible shortcut: take a public character that is nearly right and edit the parts that are wrong. I'd treat anything cloned as a rough cut rather than a finished edit.

What is missing

The chat has no user persona option. The creator's Persona field describes the character, not you, so there is nowhere to tell every character who you are once and have it stick. Every chat starts with you as a stranger.

For me that is the biggest gap in the tool. A persona is the cheapest memory feature an app can offer, and Gening's memory needs all the help it can get.

The practice character built during the site's check on 23 September 2026 was not published. So nothing here speaks to how public characters are reviewed after publishing, if they are reviewed at all.

My view: the creator is better than the rest of the site. The fields are sensible, the preview is quick and the card import respects people who already have work elsewhere. It is the one part of Gening that feels designed by someone who uses it.

Replies arrive in about 5–10 seconds. That is quick enough to feel like conversation and slow enough to notice, roughly the pause of someone who reads your message twice before answering. I'd not call it a problem.

The replies are long third-person narrative mixed with dialogue. That is the house style of Gening AI roleplay and of most roleplay bots, and it suits people who want a story more than a chat. If you want short, texting-style lines, there is no switch for it.

One reply opened: "Oh, don't worry about the floor! Rain adds character, you know? But mystery novels...". The same reply went on to recommend a new arrival: "We just got this fantastic new one in—it's about a detective who runs a bookshop, funnily enough.".

I like that line more than I want to. The bot picked up the setting, turned it into a small joke about itself and handed the scene back, which is what a decent improv partner does. It is also a bot recommending a book that does not exist, which will matter later in this review.

The less charming habit is the steering. In a plain bookstore scenario the bot drifts toward flirtation without being asked: fingers brushing, blushing. It is the conversational version of a salesperson who compliments your shoes before you have asked about the price.

For some readers that will be the point, and they will not mind. For anyone who wanted a quiet chat about mystery novels, it means correcting the bot's course every few messages. I'd rather an app waited to be asked.

The controls, or the lack of them

Gening AI chat controls are minimal: a 5-star rating of replies, Restart Chat, Report and Share to Facebook, X or a link. There is no model selector. No regenerate or edit button is visible in the chat either.

That last one stings. In most roleplay apps, rerolling a weak reply or fixing a line is how you steer a story without breaking it, the way an editor trims a take instead of reshooting the scene. On Gening today your options are to live with the reply, rate it, or restart the whole chat.

A 5-star rating is a strange substitute for a regenerate button. It tells the site how you felt about a reply, but it does nothing for you in the next message. I think most people will ignore it within an hour.

The Share buttons are a revealing choice. The site built a way to post a reply to Facebook before it built a way to fix one, which tells you whether the chat was designed for the reader or for reach.

Speed helps more than it seems. A wait of a few seconds keeps the rhythm of a chat, and a restart costs nothing but the scene you were in, so short scenes suit the site in every way.

So my view of the conversations is split. For a short scene with a well-written character, the writing is better than the price suggests, and the speed is fine. For anything long, the lack of controls and the repetition will wear you down faster than the credits do.

If you use Gening for chat, keep scenes short, restart freely and pick characters whose first message already shows some wit. The bots that start strong tend to stay readable; the ones that start bland rarely recover.

I found that funnier than I should have. It is exactly the continuity error an editor catches in a rough cut: the actor's coffee cup is full in one shot and empty in the next, and nobody on set noticed. With a character who is meant to be a stern Victorian librarian, being demoted from Graham to a generic patron felt oddly in character, which is the kindest thing I can say about it.

The short-range memory looks fine today. In a memory check on the 3rd message, the bot correctly recalled the user's name and Agatha Christie. Three messages is not a long test, though, and my own trouble started much later than that.

The gap between those two results is the whole story. A bot that holds a name for three messages and loses it by message 18 is not broken; it is working from a short window and nothing else.

There is nothing to adjust. The chat has no memory settings: no pinned facts, no memory list, no summary you can edit. Combined with the missing user persona, that leaves you repeating yourself like a regular at a diner with a new waiter every night.

The marketing says otherwise. The copy claims "extended memory retention" and "Adaptive Learning". I'd treat both phrases like the word "cinematic" on a wedding videographer's website: a mood, not a spec.

Other reviewers see the same limit. They report weak memory across sessions, with earlier plot points recalled only vaguely. That fits both my ten days and today's missing settings.

My advice is to plan around it. Keep scenes short, restate the one or two facts that matter every dozen messages, and do not build a long story here that depends on the bot remembering chapter one. If memory is what you want from a companion, this is not the app.

As an editor I notice hands before faces, and this was the kind of hand that makes a client ask for a reshoot. The lighting was fine, the costume was fine, and the anatomy had clearly been handled by a different department.

The unique moment came on day six. I asked the librarian to recommend me a book, she invented a title, and then I asked her to generate its cover. The cover had a completely different, better title on it, and I still think about it.

That is my favourite thing that happened on Gening. The chat model and the image model disagreed about a book that did not exist, and the image model won on taste. I have seen worse continuity on paid commercial jobs.

The face-swap tool was the fastest way to drain credits. I burned a day's allowance putting my own face on a knight and looked like a disappointed potato in armor. The lighting on my face did not even match the scene, and mismatched lighting is the one thing a colourist cannot unsee.

September 2026: everything moved to Vidguru

The chat has no voice feature today. It has no image generation either. The site says so itself: "Image Generator Has Been Upgraded to Vidguru".

A top banner cross-promotes the sister product Vidguru, on vidguru.ai, an AI video and image maker. The "Free AI Tools" menu is really a set of links to Vidguru: image-to-video, text-to-video, talking photo, text-to-image, headshots, background remover, text-to-speech and voice cloning. The menu has the look of a feature list and the behaviour of a referral page.

Older descriptions paint a different picture. A secondary source says text-to-image, face swap and video generation sit in the same dashboard, and another describes in-dashboard video generation as credit-heavy. That reads like the January 2025 version of the site, before the move.

Voice is murky.

The character creation screen has a "Voice Chat" option label, and the site does not say whether it means a live call or generated audio. A secondary source says there is no real-time voice call, only voice synthesis, and reviewers report that the voices sound synthetic or robotic. My eulogy narrator would agree.

Reviewers also report that anime-style images look better than realistic ones, and that adult image prompts hit moderation more often than text. Given the anime-heavy library, the first point is at least consistent.

That leaves Gening with a menu that sells tools it does not host. I'd rather it removed the menu than dress up a referral as a feature, because a visitor who clicks "Free AI Tools" expects to stay on the site.

My view: for pictures or voice, go straight to a dedicated tool and treat Gening as a chat site. The media features were the weakest part of my ten days, and the site seems to have reached the same conclusion by moving them out.

The same free tier is smaller on 23 September 2026. Logged-in users now get 30 free credits a day. The login prompt puts it plainly: "Log in to claim 30 Free Credits daily".

How the free credits work today

A guest visitor gets 5 credits, shown in the header. On the site's check, the balance went from 5 as a guest to 30 after logging in. Five credits is a taste; thirty is a meal.

The profile page shows the credits balance with an expiration date. On the check it read "Expiration: 2026-09-24", so the daily credits expire and reset the next day. Daily free credits do not accumulate, so a quiet week does not buy a busy weekend.

There is no daily check-in screen; the credits simply refill. I like that more than I can say. A check-in calendar is a slot machine with a nicer font, and Gening does not bother with one.

In practice the daily credits cover about 30 messages a day. That is enough for one short scene, or two very short ones, and it is not enough for a long roleplay.

I think that is a healthy limit for this particular site. The memory gives out after a couple of dozen messages anyway, so a daily allowance of about one scene matches what the bot can hold.

So the number has been 50, 30 and 20 depending on who you ask and when. I'd trust the counter in the header on the day you visit, and nothing else.

What free costs you

The free tier shows ads, going by the "No Ad" perk on the paid plans. It also has a queue, going by the "Skip Queue" perk. Neither showed up in practice: no ads or paywall appeared during the site's chat on 23 September 2026.

That chat ended with 27 credits left. The meter is honest, at least: three messages, three credits, no surprises.

Reviewers report that the free daily credits run out quickly when chat and images are combined. That matches the other side of my January story, where the knight and the regenerate button did most of the spending.

There is also a phone route. An iOS App tile on the pricing page offers a free download with daily free credits and sync with the web account. For iPhone users it is the same free tier in a different frame.

I'd still start on the web, where the guest door is, and install the app only if you end up chatting most days.

My view: this is one of the few free tiers I'd call usable as it stands. It is small, it resets daily and it does not nag. If all you want is a few short scenes a day, you may never need to pay, and I think that is the best thing I can say about Gening.

So the month got cheaper and smaller at the same time. In January 2025 the $18.99 bought 3,000 credits; the $12.99 today buys 2,000, which is roughly the same price per credit in a smaller box.

The plans on 23 September 2026

The pricing page, at /pay-view, is headed "One-time payment" and shows prices in USD. The pricing FAQ says all payments are one-time purchases with no subscriptions and no automatic repeat charges: "All payments on Gening.ai are one-time purchases—no subscriptions! ... we never charge you again automatically.".

The 1 Month plan costs $12.99 and is marked "No auto-renewal". It includes 2,000 credits, and those credits expire in 1 month. It adds Skip Queue, No Ad and AI Tools.

The 12 Months plan costs $3.99 a month, "$47.88 billed once". It includes 24,000 credits, which expire in 1 year. It carries the same Skip Queue, No Ad and AI Tools perks, and it is tagged "Best Choice" and "Save 70%".

The profile page has an "Add credits" link that leads to the same page.

Is the step up worth it?

At 1 credit per message, the 1 Month pack is about 2,000 messages for $12.99, and the year is about 24,000 for $47.88. For a heavy chat user the year is cheap, well under a cent a message.

The catch is the expiry. Credits you do not spend are gone at the end of the month or the year, so the year only works for someone who will chat most days for twelve months. That is the same conclusion the spreadsheet reached in January 2025, just with smaller numbers.

The perks are thin reasons to pay. No Ad and Skip Queue fix problems that did not show up on the free tier during the site's check, and AI Tools points to the sister site anyway.

The honest comparison is between paying today and waiting until tomorrow. On Gening, tomorrow brings a fresh set of free credits, and for most casual users that is the better deal.

Paying: a gift card or crypto

This is where the pricing gets strange.

The "Pay with Visa/Mastercard" button redirects to a G2A.com product page for "Gening AI Gift Card 2000 Credits ... Key GLOBAL". Paying by card therefore means buying a G2A gift-card key and then redeeming it on Gening; card payment is not on the site itself.

The exchange-code field on the pricing page is for those G2A keys. It is a bit like buying a cinema ticket from a man outside the cinema and then showing it at the door: legal, but not what anyone expects.

The other route is "Pay with crypto", which accepts BTC, ETH and other coins. Choosing it shows an attention popup about a 5–15 minute delay after payment. The route then opens a NOWPayments invoice.

On the site's check, the NOWPayments invoice for the 1-month plan was 0.00015442 BTC, about $12.99. The price matches the card route, so at least nobody is charging a premium for the hard way.

My verdict on the pricing: cheap, honest about renewals and awkward to pay. If you are going to pay, I'd buy one month first, by whichever route you already trust, and keep the key or invoice until the credits land.

The official numbers do not all agree with that. The create-character page lists chat models at "2 credits per message", and a secondary source put a chat message at 1–2 credits. I'd plan on 1 and be pleased, and budget for 2 and not be surprised.

The regenerate habit has nowhere to go today, since the chat shows no regenerate button. That is bad for the story and oddly good for the wallet: every credit now buys a new message rather than a second opinion on the last one.

Images used to be priced in the same credits. A "Standard" image from the built-in image generator costs 3 credits, and an "Advanced" image costs 20 credits and is for subscribers. A secondary source put an image at around 5–10 credits.

The important rule is that credits are shared across all site services. Chat, images and anything else come out of one wallet, which is exactly how 60% of mine went on do-overs.

For a rough budget, count messages, not credits. The free daily allowance is about a scene, a month pack is about two thousand replies, and every picture comes out of the same pile at several credits a time.

Purchased credits stack with each purchase. That softens the expiry rule slightly, since a new pack does not wipe the old one, but I'd still not buy two packs to get a better feeling about the first.

My view: in chat alone, a credit is a message and the math is easy. The moment images enter, the meter spins like a taxi in traffic, so decide before you start how many rerolls a picture is worth.

The badge also does a quiet job: it makes the month look expensive. Next to a permanent "70% OFF", the monthly price reads as full price, which nudges people toward the year, and the year is only a good deal for daily users.

The pricing page has a "Redeem G2A key here -> Redeem" field that asks you to "Enter your exchange code". That field is not a coupon box either. It is the end of the card payment route, where a gift-card key bought on G2A turns into credits.

Beyond that, the cupboard is bare. No public promo code was found. No welcome popup appears. No referral or invite program was found, and no affiliate program was found.

No welcome email arrived either. The only emails were the two sign-in code emails, titled "Email verification code", with no coupon inside.

I think that is refreshing, in its way. Many companion apps run a small casino of countdown timers and first-purchase packs; Gening simply shows one price and one badge that exaggerates it.

If a real discount ever appears, I'd check it against the year's price per month before buying. That is the number the badge is really about.

My advice: ignore any site that claims to have a Gening AI coupon, and ignore the badge. The only real saving is the choice between the month and the year, and the free tier is a bigger saving than either.

The App Store tells a slightly different story. The iOS app is rated 17+ there, one year below what the Terms ask for. It is a small mismatch, and a telling one about how carefully the paperwork is kept.

The rules on content are strict on paper. The prohibited-use list in the Terms of Service bans obscene and sexual material outright. The Terms also forbid uploading, generating or sharing sexual, violent and other illegal content, with a permanent ban as the penalty.

A banner on the chat page adds that everything the AI says is made up, and asks users to follow local laws and avoid illegal content.

What the marketing says

The marketing says the opposite. It promises "No filter, no content restrictions, no censorship" and "unfiltered AI Chat". The home page advertises unfiltered chat with 10,000+ adult characters.

The Terms of Service ban on sexual content contradicts that no-filter marketing. I can't tell you which one Gening means. I suspect the marketing is aimed at visitors and the Terms are aimed at payment providers, which is a common split and never a comfortable one.

Readers who just want a safe-for-work chat should know that a clean setup is no guarantee of a clean scene. The bookstore chat on the site's check stayed safe for work but still drifted toward flirting without being asked.

What the settings actually offer

There is no switch for Gening AI NSFW chat: no adult-content toggle in the web interface or the profile. The stored user profile has the setting "enable_nsfw:0", which suggests a switch exists somewhere in the code without a button anywhere on the page.

A secondary source says adult content is locked behind paid credits and the free tier is safe for work. Adult content was not tested on the site's check, so that claim stays unconfirmed here.

If the claim is true, the free tier is the cautious version of the site, and paying is how the marketing's promise gets kept. I'd want that written on the pricing page, not left to a third party to explain.

The problem is one other tag. The category bar visibly includes an age-themed tag that conflicts with the platform's own rules, and it was not opened. Those tags and the step-family names from the library section sit awkwardly next to the in-chat warning against illegal content.

My view: Gening's content rules are three different documents that do not talk to each other. If you want a platform with firm, visible moderation, this is not it, and I'd not recommend it to anyone who cares about how a site polices its public shelves.

No governing law or jurisdiction was found in the Terms of Service either. An earlier read of the Terms, before 23 September 2026, found a clause naming Hong Kong SAR law: "The terms of this TOS shall be governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China". So the clause has either been removed or moved somewhere harder to find.

The contact address is [email protected]. The iOS app's seller is an individual developer account, not the company named in the policy. None of that is illegal, but it makes Gening harder to hold to anything than an app with a named company, an address and a court.

Money and refunds

Fees are non-refundable once the login details have been used: "Fees are non-refundable once the Login details have been used on Portal.". In plain English, once you have logged in with a paid account, the money is spent.

There are no refunds for part of a month. Refunds, if issued, go to the original payment method within 10 days. Crypto payments are explicitly non-refundable, and refunds for Apple purchases are handled by Apple.

Gening may terminate accounts without notice for violations. Liability is capped at US$10. That cap is less than one monthly pack, so a paid user with a grievance is, on paper, owed less than they spent.

Put together, the money rules favour the site at every step. I'd treat any payment to Gening as final the moment the credits land, and anything that comes back as a pleasant surprise.

Your data and your chats

In January 2025 their data policies were vague enough that I never typed anything personal. The librarian knew me only as Graham and, briefly, as 'dear patron'. It was the right call then and I'd make it again now.

The Privacy Policy says data is deleted within 72 hours of a request: "Your data will be deleted within 72 hours upon request". The policy also says Gening will not sell personal information. Both are good promises, and both are only as strong as the missing address behind them.

The 72-hour promise is still the most useful line in the policy. It gives you a deadline to hold the site to, and the Remove Account button in the profile makes it easy to start the clock.

No statement was found about using chats for AI training. A marketing FAQ says chat records are private: "Are my chat records private? ... conversations remain confidential.". The home page goes further: "We have strict privacy protection, and no one can access any information you input.".

That last claim cannot be literally true of any chat service, since the service itself has to read your message to reply. I'd read all three privacy lines as marketing and act as if a stranger might one day read every word.

What you make

The pricing FAQ says generated content may be used commercially. The marketing copy claims "No copyright" and "No watermark". Meanwhile, the intellectual-property section of the Terms covers only the site's own content.

For hobby use none of this matters much. For anyone planning to sell a picture or publish a story written with a Gening character, it is the difference between a promise and a right.

That is a small bug with a big effect on trust. A new user who types a correct code and lands back as a guest will assume they did something wrong, and some will not try twice. I'd tell anyone who hits it to request a second code before anything else.

The card payment route has a worse gap. The G2A product page that the card button points to returned "Access Denied" when opened on 23 September 2026. If the only card route fails, the only working route left is crypto, which is not a choice most people want to make on a Tuesday night.

The small details add up. The App Store link's slug says "keynote", even though the id is the Gening app. It is the kind of copy-paste error that makes you check the address bar twice before tapping.

The blog link uses plain http, and the blog did not load during the check. A blog that does not load is a blog that does not exist, as far as a new visitor can tell.

The chat page background image fills the whole screen. It looks dramatic in a screenshot and makes the text harder to read in practice, like a lower third over a busy shot with no drop shadow.

It also suits users who prefer crypto or gift-card payments. For most people the payment routes are an obstacle; for this group they are the point.

People who import character cards will find it useful too. The card import is a real feature, and it makes Gening a cheap second home for characters built elsewhere.

If you are unsure which side you are on, the free tier settles it cheaply. A week of daily credits will tell you whether short scenes are enough, and it costs nothing but the time.

The skip list is longer. Gening is not for users who want a choice of models, or users who want voice. It is not for users who want images inside the chat, or users who want deep memory controls.

It is also not for people who need to pay by card directly on the site, or for people who need clear refund rights. With a G2A key in the middle and a liability cap below the price of a month, a billing problem here is your problem.

The group I'd warn off most firmly is anyone who wants to build something lasting. Characters, stories and money all sit on terms that give you very few rights to stand on.

My short version: if you want a snack, Gening is a decent vending machine. If you want a meal, a relationship or a place to keep your writing, go somewhere with a kitchen.

There is no auto-renewal because all payments are one-time. The Terms of Service say the account can be cancelled at any time: "You can cancel your account at any time.". A one-time pack simply runs out, and nothing charges you again.

That changes the usual advice. On most companion apps I'd tell you to set a reminder before the renewal date; here the reminder to set is the credit expiry, so you spend what you paid for.

One oddity sits in the code. The site code contains a Stripe cancel-subscription endpoint, likely for older recurring plans. If you bought a recurring plan from Gening in the past, I'd check your card statement rather than assume it ended with the switch to one-time packs.

If you only want a break, there is nothing to do at all. The free credits reset every day and will be waiting whenever you come back.

Before paying, I'd do three things. Screenshot the plan card and the price, keep the G2A key or the crypto invoice, and note the date the credits land. With narrow refund rights, that paper trail is the only leverage you will have.

When you are done, spend or abandon the credits, then press Remove Account. I'd keep a screenshot of that step too; with a site this loose about its paperwork, your own records are the only ones you can rely on.

Spend the daily credits on chat, not pictures. Credits reset every day and do not pile up, so use them the day you get them and do not save them for a weekend.

Pick characters whose first message already has some wit, and restart rather than argue with a weak scene. With no regenerate button, a restart is the only edit you get.

If the library wears you out, write your own character. The creator's live preview makes a short test cheap, and a private character you wrote yourself is easier to steer than a stranger's.

If a login code fails to log you in, request a second one before trying anything else.

Keeping yourself safe

Type nothing personal. Use a made-up name, leave out your job, your town and anyone you know, and treat every chat as something a stranger might read later.

No X or Twitter, Reddit, Instagram or Telegram account was found. I'd go to the Discord first if something breaks; it is the only channel where a person is likely to answer.

The one tip I'd underline

Treat Gening as a toy, not a home. It is very good at the first five minutes and weak at the fiftieth hour, so use it for the first five minutes and let something else carry the long stories.

Memory is Weak. My librarian lost my name inside one short scene, and there are no settings or persona to help.

The free tier is Good. It is small, it resets every day, it needs no check-in and it does not nag; for casual use it is the best part of the site.

Images and voice are Weak. The results were poor when they lived on Gening, and they now live on a sister site.

Privacy and terms are Weak: no address, no governing law found, a tiny liability cap and privacy claims that go further than any chat service can.

Cancelling and billing is Mixed. There is no renewal to fight, but refunds are narrow and the card route runs through a marketplace.

Content settings are Weak, because the marketing, the Terms and the public tags all say different things.

The free tier is its second strength. A daily allowance that resets without a check-in and without a nag is rarer than it should be, and Gening's is usable for a short scene a day.

Where it loses is everything that needs care over time. Memory with no settings, no user persona, no regenerate button and media that has moved to another site all put it behind apps built for long companionship. If the table's other apps are relationships, Gening is a pub quiz: fun for an evening, forgotten by Friday.

Billing is a split decision. One-time packs with no renewal are friendlier than any subscription trap, but a gift-card key from a marketplace is a stranger way to pay than a normal card form. I'd rank Gening above subscription apps on renewals and below almost all of them on refund rights and paperwork.
