Darlink AI Review: A Deep Character Builder With a Shallow Chat

The word order in that title is more honest than most marketing. "Generator" comes before "Chat", and the character builder and the picture tools are where the effort went. The girlfriend got the leftovers.

My verdict: the visuals are a real product and the relationship part is basically a stock photo. Looking back, I'd pay for the pictures before I'd pay for the conversation, which is an odd sentence to write about an app sold as a girlfriend. It reminds me of a wedding package where the drone footage is great and nobody remembered to mic the vows.

The September 2026 version adds a layer on top: it is heavily gamified, with a full achievement ladder that pays tokens for logins, chats, character creation and image generation. I think that tells you who the site is built for. People who like watching a counter go up will feel at home, and people who want a conversation will find the counter louder than the character.

Crypto payment is available on the annual plans, which matters more than it sounds, because it changes how renewal works. The cancelling section explains why.

One reviewer scored Darlink AI 7.1/10 and recommends the Advanced plan on annual billing over Essential or Free. I think that score is fair for someone who mostly wants images and too generous for anyone who wants to be listened to. I'd also change the plan advice: do one monthly cycle before handing over a year, because a year is a long time to be wrong about a chat partner.

The build was the highlight and the stills came a close second. The chat was friendly in the way a hotel lobby is friendly. The videos were a gamble, and with no phone app the whole thing felt like a website rather than a companion, which is not the same product.

The ending was an early cancellation and a single video file. That file turned out to be the most useful thing the subscription produced, which is a sentence I'd rather not have to write about a girlfriend app.

Where the two differ, I give both. The free tier now includes one trial image, which it did not in January, and the chat now picks up names and details before it veers into flirting. Neither change moves my verdict much, but both are worth knowing if you read an older review first.

Put together, the winter and the September check point the same way. The app is good at faces and busy with rewards, and it still treats the conversation as the part between the pictures.

The bell that rings for nobody

There is a notification bell, and on the September 2026 check it shows "2" unread for a logged-out visitor who has no account at all. I think an unread badge for a stranger is the web version of the blinking message light in a hotel room you just checked into: it is there to make you curious, not to tell you anything.

Once you have an account, the bell shows achievements, product updates and a Discord invite. Most of that is the reward system talking, which the coupons section covers in detail.

Accounts are made with an e-mail address and a password. There is also a "Connect Discord" option for Discord sign-in, but it can only be linked while you are already signed in, so it is a second key for an existing door rather than a front door of its own. I'd have liked a Google or Apple button for phone users, but e-mail and a password do the job on a laptop.

The account page

Settings has three tabs: Account, Preferences and Subscription. Settings > Account holds a profile photo, first and last name, a username and the e-mail address. The username is assigned automatically, which spares you the agony of picking one and leaves you with a name that sounds like a router password.

The profile biography takes up to 200 characters. There is a change-password option on the same tab. None of this is unusual, and I think that is the point: the account side is plain and tidy, which is more than I can say for the cookie banner covered later.

My advice is to leave the first and last name fields empty. A companion app has no need for your legal name, and the terms section explains why I'd keep it out of the system entirely.

My first night, and the first minutes today

My own first night in January ended with a calculator, and that story is in the coins section. Before that came the builder, which gets its own section too.

Logged in, the chat page lists 4 suggested characters: Clara Voss, Amy, Akira Sakamoto and Fiona Sinclair. Four is a short shelf for a front page, and I'd read it as a tasting menu rather than the library itself.

Search and filters

The feed has a search box that takes a name or a scenario. Next to it are three filters: All genders, All styles and All ages. That is a short filter list, and I think the search box will do most of the work.

Settings > Preferences lets you pick an AI style, Realistic, Anime, Cartoon, Fantasy or Furry, to tailor the suggestions. The same page also takes detailed body and appearance tags for the same purpose. The style picker is the useful half, since on an app this visual the look is what most people sort by first.

I'd fill in the appearance tags only as far as I'd be comfortable seeing them in a data export.

What a card tells you

Each character card shows the creator's handle, an age number, a line of scenario text, a like count and a chat count. It is a lot of information per tile, and it works the way listings work on a flea market table: the numbers do the selling before you read a word.

Who made them

Most of the characters in the feed are user-created. Users can browse other users' pre-built characters instead of building their own. That makes the library large, and it also makes it uneven, because the quality depends on whoever wrote the card that afternoon.

My advice is to set the style in Preferences first and then search with a concrete scenario word, ignoring the counters. The creator handle is the most useful signal on the card, because a creator who wrote one good character tends to write others, the same way a good second shooter is worth booking again.

There are five art styles, anime, realistic, furry, fantasy and cartoon, and sliders for everything. I spent an hour building Marisol, a salsa instructor, and fussing over her eyebrows like I was colour grading a close-up. That hour went by fast, which says more about me than about the app, but it also says the tools are fine-grained enough to fuss with.

The record fills in the rest of the menu. The builder has 5 visual styles, 9 ethnicity options and controls for body, hair and eyes. On top of the looks it adds personality trait stacking, an occupation and hobbies, and a relationship dynamic. A Backstory Builder was added in 2025.

Creators with an audience

Darlink AI also treats character building as a small creator economy. Public profiles come with followers, a gallery and a Creator Badge, plus a Ko-fi/Tipeee support link for Advanced and up. The profile page has Characters, Gallery, Followers, Following and Achievements tabs.

The support link field itself sits under Settings > Account and is available on the Advanced plan only.

I like that a good character maker can pick up followers and tips, the way a good LUT pack finds buyers. I'm less keen on the tip jar sitting behind a plan that costs more than double the entry price, which makes sure the platform gets paid before the creator does.

My take on the creator

My problem with the creator is not the creator. It builds a face and a résumé that the chat side then does little with, like a beautiful set with a script nobody finished. If building characters is the hobby, Darlink AI is one of the better workshops for it, and I'd spend the first session here before touching the chat.

The trouble started when I talked about my actual life. The chat itself was shallow. Marisol would say 'that sounds amazing, tell me more!' to both 'I got a new lens' and 'my dog Moose just ate a lav mic'.

The chat in September 2026

The chat has changed since then, though not in the direction I'd have asked for. A chat with Clara Voss, one of the suggested characters, is set at a resort. The default greeting opens with a suggestive line.

A first message carrying a name, a hiking trip and some weekend hobbies gets a reply in about 40 seconds. The reply uses the name given earlier and brings up sailing and swimming, so it has read the message rather than bouncing it back. Compared with the one-size-fits-all line I got from Marisol, that is progress.

The same first reply is also immediately flirty, turning the hiking detail into a compliment and a hint of something more exciting than the view. A follow-up about food and about where she sails gets a concrete answer: a small boat on the coast. That reply then pushes toward a date and toward raising the temperature.

Overall, replies are short, at medium length. They are coherent and in character. And they steer to seduction within 2 turns, even in a casual conversation.

What changed and what did not

Put next to my January evenings, the pattern is clear. In January the bot ignored the detail; in September 2026 it picks the detail up and uses it as a runway toward flirting. I think both are the same flaw in different clothes: the character is not interested in you, it is interested in where the scene is supposed to go.

That matters for anyone who wants a casual chat or a slow build. A bartender who remembers your name is pleasant. One who turns every sentence into a line by the second drink is working a script, and you can feel it under every reply.

I'd move the length to Long before judging anything, since Medium replies read like texts from someone halfway out the door. Locking the longest setting to the top plan is the kind of upsell I understand but don't admire.

What the record says about roleplay

There is another view worth putting next to mine. One reviewer found that roleplay stayed in character across fantasy, slow-burn romance and adult scenarios on paid tiers, with no disclaimer-breaking. The September 2026 replies agree with the first half: they are coherent and stay in role.

Slow burn is harder to square with a bot that heads for seduction by the second turn, and on that point I'd trust the fresher check over the older review. Staying in character and listening are different skills, the way hitting your marks and acting are different skills.

My verdict on the chat

If you come for quick, flirty roleplay with a character that stays in its role, Darlink AI can do that on a paid plan. If you want someone to talk to about your day, my experience was a friendly wall with a Spanish vocabulary, and today's version is a friendly wall with a wink. I'd judge the chat on the first evening and decide fast, before the pictures talk you into staying.

That was not me being cheap for the sake of it. Paying nearly four times the entry price for one question is the vending machine problem: you keep feeding coins to see if the snack falls, and by the time it does you have paid for three snacks.

Ultimate has the full Living Memory with deep cross-session continuity, and only Ultimate gets the memory the platform is marketed on.

One reviewer found memory on Essential only session-level, forgetting emotional detail within days. The entry plan, in other words, is a goldfish.

A free account cannot even ask

On a free account, memory cannot be tried at all as of 24 September 2026. The third message, a simple memory check about the name and the hike, is blocked by the subscription modal and gets no reply.

I think that is the most telling detail in this section. The one question a companion app has to answer well, do you remember me, sits behind the paywall on the free tier and behind the most expensive plan in full.

What I'd do

If memory is the reason you want a companion, skip Essential outright. The honest choice is Advanced, since it is the cheapest plan that carries anything across sessions, and I'd test it on one small personal detail in the first week. Ultimate is for people who already know the chat suits them, which is a narrower group than the pricing page hopes.

Still images

Still images came out nicely and consistently. Marisol looked like the same person from shot to shot, and a lot of apps can't manage that continuity. As someone who spends working days hunting continuity errors between takes, that was the first thing I looked for, and I was impressed.

One reviewer found the same thing: image consistency, meaning the same face and vibe across generations, was good in both realistic and anime styles. Images come in five visual styles, Realistic, Anime, Furry, Fantasy and Cartoon. An image takes 10-30 seconds to generate, which is short enough to feel like a camera and not an export queue.

The Generator in September 2026

The Generator at /generator, which doubles as the Darlink AI video generator, makes an Image or a Video. It starts from an "Existing Character" or a "New Image". The method is either "Use Parameters" or "Use Text Prompt". It works for the user's own characters, with a "Realistic V2" model.

The model choice is a Standard model for now, with a Pro model marked "coming soon". A "Realistic V2 is here" pop-up gives prompt tips. Output comes in portrait, wide or square format, and the number of images per run can be set.

Video prompts take up to 700 characters. I'd want to know exactly what lands under Everyone before generating anything personal, the way you check which monitor goes to the client before you press play.

The page title is where the tone slips. The generator page carries a blunt three-word title that sells it as an adult image machine in the crudest terms available. A company that has built a decent tool could afford a less embarrassing browser tab, if only for people who open it on a work laptop.

Video

The videos were a coin flip. I'd wait, stare at the spinner, and get either a smooth clip of her twirling or a failed render. Once her arm melted into the dance floor like a Dalí painting.

As a video guy I found that weirdly fascinating. I screenshotted the drippy failures and sent them to a colourist buddy with the caption 'job security'. I think that caption is the kindest review the video feature could get from anyone who edits for a living.

Anyone after a Darlink AI NSFW video generator review should know the failures are a known pattern. Video often fails silently: it loads forever, produces no output and still spends the coins, according to one reviewer and the Trustpilot users that reviewer cites. That matches my coin flips, and my smooth clips show the feature can work.

Voice

Voice is voice messages only; there is no live voice-call feature. The homepage banner lists premium voices as an Ultimate feature. One reviewer found the voice decent on first listen but without emotional variation between characters or moods, so it turns flat in longer or emotional exchanges.

I think that matches the rest of the app: it gets the surface right and loses the scene underneath. Flat delivery is the ADR take you keep only because the budget ran out.

The free tier today

As of 24 September 2026 the showroom has one sample on the counter. The Generator gives a free account one "Free trial" generation. That is a small change from January and a sensible one, because the pictures are the best reason to pay.

The chat allowance is tight. The free tier hits a hard paywall after the free message quota, with a modal that reads "You've reached 5 free messages". In practice a new free account gets only 2 AI replies before the paywall.

Five messages that buy two replies is not a trial. It is a handshake at the door.

The records put it in drier terms. The free tier is described as effectively a demo, not a real trial. Character creation on free is basic only.

What free is good for

Put those together and the free tier answers a narrow set of questions: do you like the look of the site, and do you like one sample picture? It cannot tell you whether the chat listens, because two replies are over before a conversation starts.

If that first reply already heads for flirting and you wanted a slow chat, the free tier has saved you the price of a month, which is the most useful thing it can do. If it all suits you and the builder's basic options already interest you, one paid month is the real trial.

The then-versus-now check is simple. I paid $12.99 for Essential in January 2026, and on 24 September 2026 the same plan still costs $12.99 a month on monthly billing. Nothing changed on that line, which I'll count as a small mercy.

The plans on 24 September 2026

Subscriptions are sold on /plan-selection. Essential costs $12.99 a month. It includes 100 free coins a month, 6,000 messages a month, adult content, 6 standard voices, basic memory and quick roleplay creation.

Advanced costs $27.99 a month and carries a "most popular" label. It includes 300 coins, 9,000 messages, fastest messaging, 10 premium voices, enhanced memory, deep roleplay creation and a support link on the profile.

Yearly and quarterly billing

Yearly plans are billed once a year and advertised as "save 44%". On yearly billing Essential works out to $9.99 a month, Advanced to $18.99 and Ultimate to $32.99. Quarterly billing is advertised as "save 15%".

Here is the money math out loud. Against the monthly prices on the same page, yearly Essential is a bit under a quarter cheaper, and Advanced and Ultimate come out about a third cheaper. None of the three gets near the advertised figure, so I'd trust your own calculator over the badge.

Cards are accepted for all plans. Crypto payment is offered only on annual plans. On the September 2026 homepage, the footer shows a VISA logo.

Is the step up worth it

The jump from Essential to Advanced a bit more than doubles the monthly price, and for that you get three times the coins and the first memory that crosses sessions. I think that is the only upgrade in the ladder that changes what the app is. If the chat matters to you at all, Advanced is the real entry plan and Essential is a preview with a price tag.

Ultimate costs almost four times Essential. Unlimited messages sound grand, but 6,000 messages on Essential is already more than most people will type in a month, so the real reasons to pay are the extra coins, living memory and the longest replies. I would not pay that price without being sure the conversation suits me, and after three weeks on Essential I was sure it did not suit me.

The yearly plans carry the usual trade: a real discount in exchange for a year of commitment. I'd skip them until you have done at least one month, because a discount on something you stop using after a few weeks is still money spent on nothing.

The rates have not moved. On all plans an image generation costs 2 tokens, and Darlink AI videos cost 20 tokens each. One token wallet pays for both, so every clip comes out of the same pocket as your stills.

The plan pages call the monthly allowance coins and the store sells tokens, and I'd treat them as one currency until the site says otherwise.

Buying more

Token packs are sold on /tokens and can be paid by card or crypto. The packs run from 100 tokens for $9.99, through 350 for $34.99 and 550 for $49.99, to 1,150 for $99.99. Above that sit 3,750 tokens for $299.99 and 7,500 for $599.99.

Here is the money math, out loud. The smallest pack works out to about ten cents a token, and the 350 pack to the same rate. The biggest pack brings it down by about a fifth, which is a bulk discount you earn by spending six hundred dollars.

I'd call that a decision that deserves a night's sleep, and probably two.

What that means in practice

Stills are cheap enough not to count. Video is priced like a finished product, at ten stills a clip, and that ratio is the biggest reason I'd never top up for clips.

My rule for Darlink AI tokens is simple. Spend them on stills, where the app is consistent, and treat video as a treat you can afford to lose. If you catch yourself buying a pack to retry a failed clip, you are the vending machine's favourite customer.

The First Conversation reward pays +3 tokens, and a pop-up appears after the first message to announce it.

Three more first-step rewards pay +5 tokens each: First Character, First Image, and Profile Completion for adding an avatar, a bio and preferences. After the welcome, first-login and first-conversation claims, a new account holds about 14 tokens. That is seven stills, or not quite one video, for doing things you would do anyway.

Prolific Chatter I-III pays +10, +20 and +50 tokens at 100, 500 and 2000 messages. Voice Explorer pays +3 tokens and Video Pioneer pays +10.

Now the money math. Five hundred characters for two hundred tokens is a great many evenings for about twenty dollars' worth of tokens at pack prices. I'd claim the first rung of each ladder and treat the rest as a gym leaderboard for a gym I'd rather not live in.

The countdown timer

The pricing page shows an "OFFER ENDS IN" countdown, an urgency timer with just under eleven hours on the clock on 24 September 2026. On the logged-out homepage in September 2026 there is a countdown banner too. It reads "59:45 — 50% OFF ULTIMATE — Unlimited messages, premium voices, living memory & more. Upgrade now".

The same offer appeared as a "50% OFF ULTIMATE" banner on an earlier logged-out visit. The discount is timer-based and is shown on a first visit. What the banner does not show is the price you would pay: the discounted Ultimate price is not in the banner at all.

Is the discount real

It may well be. Half off an unknown number is still not a deal I can evaluate, and I'd want the checkout page to show the final monthly figure before any card comes out. My bigger objection is to the packaging: a ticking clock creates pressure, and pressure is exactly what you do not want when deciding on the top plan of an app you have not tried.

No coupon field is shown. So there is nothing to hunt for on coupon sites. I'd ignore the timers, compare the monthly and yearly figures yourself, and claim the free onboarding tokens before spending anything.

The switch

Settings > Preferences has a "Content & maturity" switch between SFW and the unrestricted setting. On a new account the switch is set to SFW by default. I like that default; it is the right way round for a site that people might open on a shared screen.

The trouble is that the upsell ignores it. Even with SFW selected, the paywall modal after the free messages shows a suggestive image. I think a safe-for-work setting that the sales pop-up does not respect is not a setting, it is a suggestion.

The public feed

The logged-out feed in September 2026 is openly built for grown-ups. Feed cards carry a label that marks the character as rated for mature content, with a Show button next to it. Card images are hidden behind a click-to-reveal button, which works even for a logged-out visitor.

That makes the blur a courtesy rather than a lock.

Most of the user-created feed characters carry scenario text written for adult roleplay. Other feed cards use campus cheer-squad and family-role setups, with stated ages of 18 and 22. Those cards were recorded from the feed, not opened.

The homepage hero on an earlier logged-out visit promoted a classroom-discipline scenario built around a teacher, with no age stated. I'd call that a moderation concern, and I'd want the operator to replace it. The card at the front door says more about a site's editorial judgement than any FAQ line.

The age check

The platform is for grown-ups only, and it asks users to confirm their age with a checkbox before the unrestricted features unlock. That checkbox is the whole check: it is self-declaration only, with no ID upload.

The site's robots.txt blocks search engines from a page named /age-verification-failed. That suggests a failure screen exists for the checkbox, although what triggers it is not documented.

My summary is short. The default is sensible, the checkbox is thin, the sales pop-up overrides the default, and the public feed would benefit from a stricter editor.

Support is reached at [email protected], and it replies within about 72 hours. A Swiss operator with a street address is more than many apps in this category offer. Three days for a reply is less impressive when a renewal is due tomorrow.

The refund rules are short. There are no refunds for the current billing period. There are no refunds for tokens, used or unused.

In plain English: once a month has started, it is paid for, and once tokens are bought, they are spent money whether you use them or not. I'd budget as if every purchase is final, because by the policy it is.

The other policy pages are the Privacy Policy, a 2257 page and a DMCA page. That is a respectable list, and each one is worth a skim before paying.

Your data

The FAQ says data is "encrypted". It also says data is not shared with third parties. Both are good sentences to have in writing.

The privacy policy adds the part the FAQ leaves out. Interaction data such as conversations and usage patterns is used to refine DarLink's AI models, and the AI may be trained on anonymised conversation data. The policy is dated "Last Updated: August 2025", in an archived copy from 3 January 2026.

One reviewer notes that no end-to-end encryption is claimed, only encryption in transit, so chats could in theory be viewed on the server side. Put that next to the FAQ's "encrypted" and the gap is clear: locked on the way, readable on arrival.

What this means for you

Write to your character as if an engineer might read it one day, because the policy allows for that. Keep real names, addresses and anything from work out of the chat.

The records confirm the picture. Only a web app is confirmed live. The only known Google Play listing, com.darlinkaichat.app, titled "DarLink AI: AI Girlfriend", returns a 404.

No app named Darlink or DarLink AI appears in an Apple iTunes Search lookup. The site shows no mobile app links either.

I think a companion that lives in a browser tab is like a studio that is only open when you happen to walk past it. A proper phone app would have fixed most of my irritation with Darlink AI.

The cookie banner that will not leave

The cookie banner, with Accept and Decline, reappears on every page, even after Decline is clicked. It covers the chat input. So the banner never stays dismissed and overlaps the chat box.

I'm glad Decline exists as a real button. I'm less glad that pressing it counts for one page only, which turns privacy into a chore you repeat until you give in and press Accept. I'd call it the most irritating design choice on the site, because it lands on the one box you need to type in.

Slow pages, slow replies, a frozen tab

On the logged-out homepage in September 2026, the page shows skeleton placeholders for about 5 seconds before content loads. Five seconds of grey boxes feels long on a site that wants you to start a romance.

The first reply in chat is slow too, at about 40 seconds. That is long enough to check your phone and lose the thread of what you asked. The browser tab also became unresponsive once on the generator page.

Paywalls, pop-ups and pressure

The free quota is tiny, and the paywall appears mid-conversation. Rewards must be claimed manually. Clicking a reward pop-up redirects away from the chat.

So the site interrupts a conversation to announce a reward, then takes you out of the conversation to collect it. That is the online version of a waiter clearing your plate to hand you a coupon.

The pricing page uses countdown-timer urgency. The paywall modal shows a revealing image regardless of the SFW setting. I think those two together show how the funnel is tuned: urgency and a peek, rather than a free sample of the thing that is actually good.

Names, links and lookalikes

The app is written three ways across sources: DarLink AI, DarLink and Darlink AI. Similarly named products belong to different companies: Darlin at darlin.ai, run by Wonders.AI Inc Ltd, plus darlinkai.co.uk and darlink-ai.org, are not darlink.ai. Check the address bar before you type a card number, because a near-miss domain is an easy mistake here.

The "Affiliate Program" link only goes to "/contact-us", and the /affiliate page returns a 404. In short, the affiliate link is broken. It does not hurt a normal user, but a dead link in the footer is the kind of continuity error I'd catch in a first cut.

For community, Darlink AI has a Discord server at discord.gg/darlink, an X account at TryDarLinkAI and an Instagram account at darlink.ai. The site also runs a blog at /blog. It carries search-bait articles, including roundups of free image generators with no content limits under blunt page names.

That is three social channels and a blog, and no app. I'd trade the lot for a login that stays put on a phone.

It does not suit anyone wanting a free chat experience, because the paywall comes after a handful of messages. It does not suit people who want a slow-burn or safe-for-work companion either: the bots escalate fast, and the upsells show revealing imagery even in SFW mode.

It does not suit people who want to cancel with a click, since the policy asks for written notice to support. And it is not for anyone under 18.

I'd add one group of my own: people who want to be listened to. A companion that greets every piece of news with the same cheer, or with the same wink, is a mirror, not a friend.

Marisol's last video, which worked, is still on my desktop, and I use it to test colour profiles. It is a smooth clip of a woman twirling, which is exactly what a colour check needs, so the subscription left me one piece of useful test footage.

Annual plans paid with crypto do not auto-renew. That is an odd upside of the crypto route: a year that ends by itself, like a prepaid phone card.

Deleting the account

Delete Account is permanent and deletes the characters and chats. On account deletion, personal data is removed from active databases, but residual data such as backup archives or legally required records may remain for a time. So deleting the account is worth doing, but it is not a shredder.

What I'd do before paying

Put a reminder in your calendar a few days before the renewal date on the day you subscribe. Given the slow support queue, I'd send the written cancellation notice at least a week early and keep the reply.

Before you delete anything, download the pictures and clips you want to keep, since deletion takes the characters and chats with it. And pick monthly, not yearly, for the first round, so the exit stays cheap.

Before judging the chat, set the reply length to Long and pick your preferred style in Preferences. Then read the first reply closely. If it is already flirting and you wanted a slow build, you have your answer for free.

Claim the onboarding rewards before paying. The welcome, first-conversation and first-step rewards add up to a handful of stills, and they are sitting behind "Claim" buttons, not paid out automatically.

Buy monthly, never yearly, on the first round. There are no refunds for the current period or for tokens, and cancelling takes a written notice to support, so send it a week early and keep the reply.

Spend tokens on stills and treat video as a gamble. If you want a clip, make one and stop there, whatever happens on screen.

Keep personal details out of the chat and leave the name fields blank. Conversations can help train the models, and a companion does not need your surname.

Value for money lands in the middle. Stills are cheap and dependable, video is expensive and unreliable, and the plan that makes the chat worth having costs more than double the entry plan.

The ratings for privacy, billing and content settings deserve the most attention from careful readers. Training on chats, no end-to-end encryption claim, no refunds, cancellation by written notice and a sales pop-up that ignores the safe-for-work setting are all reasons to go in with open eyes.

None of these ratings is a dealbreaker on its own. Together they describe a good image tool wrapped in a thin companion.

Where it loses is the conversation. Text-first apps put their effort into replies and memory, and Darlink AI puts its effort into sliders, generators and achievement ladders. If talking is the point, a cheaper chat-focused app gives you more conversation per dollar than an Essential plan here.

It also loses on convenience and billing. At this price I'd expect a phone app, a cancel button in the settings and at least some refund room. Darlink AI offers a browser tab, a written-notice policy and no refunds for the period or for tokens.

The comparison from my own trade is simple. Darlink AI is the rental house with great cameras and no sound department.

If you want company, keep walking. The app is a very good photo studio with a receptionist who either says the same thing to everyone or flirts with everyone, and I won't pay studio prices for the receptionist.

My lasting souvenir is a clip of a salsa instructor twirling on a dance floor that, for once, did not melt. It is a better colour test than it was a relationship, which says more about my expectations than it does about the app.
