ChatUp AI review: my verdict after 10 days
ChatUp AI is the easiest AI chat site to walk into and one of the hardest to hand money to. I stopped after 10 days. It was a good toy for trying languages and odd characters, but I never felt anyone was minding the store.
That last feeling is the whole review in one line. The chats were fun in places, the Spanish practice was useful, and nothing about the business behind it made me want to stay.
The site sells more than companions. On its SEO landing pages, chat, image generation, text-to-video and image-to-video sit together in one embedded widget. It feels less like an app and more like a shop counter with every product stacked on it at once.
The same site sells visibility to other businesses. It offers a $100 permanent do-follow guest post and a homepage feature at $300 for 7 days. An affiliate program pays a 30% cash commission on every sale through a referral link.
None of that is illegal, and plenty of sites sell ads. What worries me is the payment side: the VoltPay gift-card checkout and the G2A key redeem are both notable consumer-risk signals. I'd put them first on any list of reasons to wait.
So is it worth it? For an adult who wants to chat for free, without an account, for an evening or two, yes. For anyone thinking about paying, I'd wait until the billing story stops contradicting itself, and I'm not holding my breath.

How I used it
My time with ChatUp AI was short: 10 days, in March 2025, on a laptop, without paying a cent. The chats themselves get their own sections below. This part is the overview, and the most memorable thing to come out of it was not a conversation at all.
Funny detour: I used the poem generator for my mom's 60th birthday card. It rhymed 'sixty' with 'Mississippi'. I looked at that line the way I look at a client's favourite shot that is slightly out of focus, and then I left it in.
She loved it, and I have not told her. I think that is the most honest summary of the whole site: the output is odd, the person on the receiving end is happy, and nobody asks where it came from. I'd call it my best use of the site, which says more about me than about the site.

The facts in this review come from two places. My notes from March 2025 cover what it felt like at the time. Everything written in the present tense was re-checked on 23 September 2026, on the web version and on the free tier.
The site is live at https://aichattings.com/ under the brand "ChatUp AI". That mismatch between brand and address is the first small oddity, and it will not be the last.
Under the hood, aichattings.com is a WordPress SEO site. The actual app is embedded in its pages as an iframe, served from aichattings.com/wp-content/uploads/index.html. In plain terms, the chat is a window cut into the wall of a content site.
I think that setup explains a lot about how the whole thing feels. The pages are built to be found by search engines, and the app rides along inside them, so every visit starts with marketing copy before it gets to a character.
The site has 22 language versions, such as /es/, /fr/, /de/ and /ja/. The interface itself is listed in 23 languages: en, es, fr, de, pt, it, ja, ko, nl, zh, sv, tr, uk, cs, sk, el, hu, da, fi, nb, pl, ro and sl. For a language learner, that list is the strongest selling point the site has.
On money, the story is simple, because there is not much of one. On 23 September 2026 the checkout was followed as far as the gift-card step and stopped there, and no payment was made. I'd call that the right amount to spend on a site this vague about what it sells.

Nothing paid yet
So the table under this section is short, and it should be. Ten days, free, a laptop, one birthday poem and a lot of open tabs. I'd rather give a site like this ten honest days than ten months of polite hope.
Signing up for ChatUp AI and my first night
My first night had no sign-up at all, which was the whole point. The pitch was 'no login, no sign-up,' and it held up. I was chatting with a character within seconds.
After a morning of client intake forms, that felt almost rebellious. I had spent the morning on forms, and here was a website that asked me for nothing. It is a strange thing to feel grateful to a website for not wanting my email, but that evening I was.
The promise is still on the homepage today. It advertises "free character AI chat with no sign up required" and "no login needed". Guest chat works without an account, so the headline is accurate.
I'd give the site full marks for this part. Most companion apps make you pay for the first hello with an email address and a password, and this one simply lets you talk. If the rest of the product were as straightforward as the front door, this would be a very different review.
What the sign-up looks like on 23 September 2026
An account is optional, but it exists. Sign-up offers email, password and confirm password, or Google. The terms checkbox on the sign-up form is pre-ticked.
I'd rather see that box empty. Agreeing to terms should take one small deliberate click, and a pre-ticked box is a habit I'd associate with the fine print on gym contracts.
Next comes an email check. A 6-digit code arrives from [email protected], with a subject line that starts with the code and ends in "ChatUp AI Registration Code". The email arrives within about 1 minute.
The code email says "Expires in 5 minutes". That is tight but workable, as long as the email tab is already open.
After the code, a nickname step follows with an auto-suggested name, "Lucas Williams", which can be changed. Then the screen says welcome, adds the nickname, and tells the new user "You're all set". Being handed a stranger's name by default reads like checking into a hotel under someone else's booking.
Guest chat history carries over into the new account. That is the right call: whatever a guest started is still there after registering, so nobody loses a conversation by signing up halfway through it.
In total, sign-up takes about 3 minutes. It is smooth apart from the SiteGround "upstream request failed" reloads, which the friction section covers. Three minutes is ordinary for this kind of site, and nothing in the flow is confusing.
The button I would not press
One button in the sign-in modal deserves a closer look: "Download APK - Spicy & Uncensored". An APK is an Android install file that comes from outside the app store.
I'd never install an app that way from a site that does not publish who runs it. The label also tells me exactly who the button is aimed at, and it is not the person looking for a Spanish tutor.
My advice for a first night is the same as my own first night: stay on the web, stay a guest, and see whether any character is worth a second evening before handing over an email address.
Browsing the characters
The catalogue claims 200,000+ characters. Many are near-duplicates of each other with slightly different hair colors, like a used-car lot where every sedan is silver.
Scrolling it felt like logging B-roll from a shoot where the camera never moved: plenty of footage, very few different shots. A big number on a banner is marketing. What I wanted was a handful of characters worth talking to, and the duplicates buried them.
The front page is aggressively adult and heavy on taboo scenarios. I scrolled with the laptop angled away from the next table at the coffee shop like I was reading classified documents.
It was not a proud moment, and it was not a comfortable one either. It felt like checking a bank balance while standing in a queue.
My problem was not that adult content exists. It is an adult site, and it says so. My problem is that discovery starts with the loudest cards, so finding the quieter characters takes far more scrolling than it should.
I think the library would be twice as useful at half the size. Merge the lookalikes, put the language and hobby characters where people can find them, and the claim of a giant catalogue would matter less than the few characters that are actually different.
My advice: skip the homepage when browsing in public, and go straight to a character page or a search. The front page is the site's shop window, and it is dressed for a very specific customer.
Creating a character on ChatUp AI
Building a character is a separate path from chatting, and none of my notes from March 2025 involve it. So this part covers the tools as they stand today, and my opinion of them on paper.
A Persona tab holds the user persona, which is where the app keeps who you are in a chat. I like that it is a separate tab. It means the character does not have to guess who it is talking to from the first message.
Create My AI is an 8-step wizard that starts with gender plus a Realistic or Anime style. For the character image, the wizard offers "Upload" or "Generate".
Eight steps is a reasonable length. It is closer to filling in a shot list than writing a screenplay, and I'd take a guided form over a blank text box for a first character. That said, asking for a visual style before asking for a personality tells me what the site thinks the product is: the picture comes first and the person comes later.
The Upload option is worth a pause. The terms say upload features were removed, yet the wizard still offers one, and the friction section goes into that contradiction.
A review site says free accounts are capped at 15 custom characters a month. On 23 September 2026, though, the plan cards list Create AI 15 a month as a PRO Standard allowance. I'd treat the free-account claim as out of date until the site itself says otherwise, and I would not plan around it.
My verdict on the creator: fine for a quick custom character, thin on anything that shapes how a character talks over time.
What conversations on ChatUp AI felt like
Spanish lessons in a café that does not exist
It supports 27+ languages, so I practiced Spanish with a café owner character in 'Madrid' for three evenings. Her grammar was better than mine and she was patient about my verbs.
That was the best use I found for the site. A language partner who never sighs is worth a lot, and she never once made me feel like a tourist pointing at a menu.
Three evenings is not a course, but it was enough to show the idea works: a patient character, a fixed setting and low stakes. I'd order a drink, get corrected, try again and get corrected more gently. Nobody at a real counter has that much time for my subjunctive.
The language count has moved since then. In March 2025 the site advertised 27+ languages; on 23 September 2026 it has 22 language versions, which still covers Spanish with room to spare.
Uneven, like a shoot with two crews
Chat quality was uneven. Some bots had real personality, and others answered like a vending machine that learned to wink.
It reminded me of a multi-camera shoot where one angle is lit beautifully and the next is flat: same event, different crew. The good bots had opinions and asked questions back. The bad ones returned the same flirty line no matter what I put in the slot.
There was no way to tell which kind I would get from the card alone. With so many near-identical characters, finding the good ones was mostly luck and patience.
A sample chat on today's free model
The picture below comes from the check on 23 September 2026, not from my own evenings. The chat was with "Aurora - Private Stewardess" on the default free model, which is also called "ChatUp AI".
Replies arrive in about 5 to 10 seconds. They use a third-person action plus dialogue style, the familiar roleplay format with stage directions in the text.
The bot is flirtatious by default, even to neutral messages. A typical line: "Coffee it is, handsome. I'll make it extra strong for you." Another: "I'm based out of LA, but my favorite is Lisbon. Rooftop bars, warm nights..."
Both lines are fine, and both are generic. That is the vending machine again: the wink arrives whether or not anyone pressed the button. For a flirty evening that may be the point, but for anything else the default setting gets in the way.
A review site reports that characters stay in role well over long sessions. That matches the better half of my March 2025 evenings, not the worse half.
Models, tones and settings
There are 10 selectable chat models, sorted by tier. The free ones are ChatUp AI, Mistral Nemo and Gemini; Standard adds Mythomax; Premium adds Grok 4.3, Qwen3 and WizardLM; Deluxe adds Euryale and Deepseek; and Ultimate adds Deepseek R1.
Each model carries star ratings for Uncensored, Intelligence, Richness and Languages. I like seeing the models rated side by side, even if the stars come from the seller. It is like a diner menu with chilli symbols: useful, but printed by the kitchen.
Tone presets are Natural, Funny, Cold, Sweet and Aggressive, plus a custom tone. A flirt-by-default bot with a Cold preset is an interesting admission. The dial exists because the default is turned up so high.

The in-chat Settings panel holds Language, Memory, Tone, Max message length and a model chooser. Max message length runs from 400 on free to 1000 on Ultimate.
For a language learner, the Language setting and the Natural tone would be my first two changes on a return visit. For everyone else, I'd say the models matter less than luck with the character card, and no paid tier fixes a character that was written badly.
Memory
Memory was short. The café owner forgot I'd ordered a cortado and offered me 'the usual', which she had invented.
In editing terms, that is a continuity error: the cup changes between shots and the actor insists it was always that cup. It was funny, and it was also the moment I stopped trusting her with anything longer than a verb conjugation.
The picture is better on 23 September 2026. A memory check passes: the bot recalls the city named earlier with "Dublin. Three delays, remember? I listen, sweetheart."
So the then and now differ. In March 2025 the café owner invented my order; in September 2026 the free model held on to a city from a few messages back.
A review site found memory better than expected on the free tier, recalling details from several messages earlier. Two sources agree that short-range recall works today, and I'd accept that.
The memory tiers run from 2K to 32K. In Settings they read 2K default, 4K Standard, 8K Premium, 16K Deluxe and 32K Ultimate.
A few messages back is not the same as a relationship, though. I'd read the free 2K as enough for a scene and not enough for a story. Nothing from my own evenings argues otherwise, since the thing she forgot was the one detail a café owner should know.
If memory is the reason you want a companion, I'd treat the tier ladder as the real product here. On free, expect a good short-term listener with no long-term diary.
Images, video and the other ChatUp AI tools
The site does more than chat: image generator, video generator, poem generator, essay writer, story generator. It felt like a flea market that sells both companions and homework help.
Walking those aisles, I kept expecting a stall that sold phone cases. Variety is not a bad thing, but it made the companion part feel like one product among many rather than the point of the place.
The video generator got about four minutes of my professional attention before the hands started melting into the coffee cups. I closed it like a client cut I didn't want to give notes on.
Hands are the first thing I check in any generated clip, the way a colourist checks skin tones before anything else. These failed early, and once I saw the melt, I could not unsee it.
The image generator today
The image generator offers a long list of styles: Flirty, Sexy, Spicy, Sensual, Woman, Mature, Realistic, Asian, Anime, Animated, Dreamer, Animal, 3D, Art and Painting, plus an anime-style adult preset whose name this site does not print.
It has Fast and High Quality modes. The aspect ratios are 1:1, 9:6 and 6:9. It makes 1, 2 or 4 images at a time.
As someone who delivers in 16:9 all day, I'd call 9:6 an odd choice. It is not wrong, just a ratio no screen I know was built for.
A safe-for-work prompt fails with "Something wrong happened, please check your network and retry". A retry produces nothing. An image generator that cannot draw the tame prompt is a strange thing to sell credits for.
A review site found images clean, but the same character's face drifts between generations. That is the flaw an editor spots first, because a face that changes between shots breaks the story faster than bad lighting.
Video and the extra tools
Image-to-video from generated stills is still listed, even after the Feb 2025 removal of upload features. Another review site saw video listed as "Coming Soon" on the separate pricing page while the web version already offered it.
Two pages of the same shop disagreeing about whether a product exists is a pattern this review keeps running into.

The site also has "AI tools" such as a story or novel generator and an "unrestricted ChatGPT". That last label worries me more than it tempts me. A site that names no company, offering an unrestricted version of someone else's brand, is a stall I'd walk past.
What the ChatUp AI free tier gets you
The free tier starts before any account. For guests, the character page shows the chat and a "10" credits badge. A new account starts with a balance of 10 credits, the same as a guest.
In summary, the free tier has the default models, 2K memory, 400-word replies and 10 credits. The official site publishes no numeric free-tier limits.
That silence is the main problem with the free tier. A free plan is only useful if you know where it stops, and here the reader has to find out by walking into the wall.
What a short check shows
Text chat did not use credits in the September 2026 check: the balance stays at 10 after 3 chat messages. No message limit is hit in 3 messages. Credits stay unchanged after the chat.
Three messages is a sip, not a meal, so I would not call chat unlimited on that evidence. What it does show is that the credits are meant for pictures and video, not for talking.
What other sources say
A review site updated in July 2026 says a new account starts with roughly 8 to 10 credits. An older source said users get 10 free daily credits.
On 23 September 2026 a new account has a flat 10 credits and no daily top-up appears, so the daily allowance looks like history. I'd plan around ten credits, once, and treat anything more as a pleasant surprise.
The profile menu
The profile menu shows the User ID, the plan "Guest" and "Expire: 2026-09-24". It also carries Upgrade, two Redeem buttons, Clear all chats and Log out.
A guest plan with an expiry date the day after sign-up is a small tell. The free account is a waiting room, and the Upgrade button is always in view.

Who free is good for
Free is good for language practice, a few character chats and a handful of images. That covers most of what I would want from the site, and it costs nothing but time.
Where free stops is memory and media. The 2K window holds a scene rather than a story, and ten credits do not go far once the generators start asking for them. I'd stay on free and let the site prove itself first.
ChatUp AI pricing: what the plans cost
What I knew in March 2025
I never pinned down the pricing. There's a pricing page, but the free experience plus upsell pop-ups made it unclear what exactly I'd be buying.
It felt like a gym that won't tell you the membership price until you are already on the treadmill. Reviews online complained about paywalled features, so I didn't pay.
My rule is simple: if I can't write down what I'm buying in one sentence, I don't buy it. ChatUp AI failed that test in March 2025, and I did not feel I was missing out.
On paper, that has changed. On 23 September 2026 the /price/ page lists four PRO plans with USD prices, so the plans at least have names and numbers now.

On media, Standard offers text-to-image up to 300 and text-to-video or image-to-video up to 4. Its video is up to 6s at 480p. It has 4K chat memory, a message length up to 500 and the Standard chat model.
PRO Premium costs $79.99 once for 365 days, which the page works out at $0.22 a day. It includes 9,000 credits, 100,000 messages a month, Create AI 100 a month and Chat Photo 10,000 a month.
Premium's media allowance is text-to-image up to 4,500 and video up to 60 clips at 10s and 720p. It has 8K memory, a message length of 600 and the Premium models.
PRO Deluxe costs $149.99 once for 365 days, or $0.41 a day. It includes 60,000 credits and unlimited messages, Create AI and Chat Photo. Its media allowance is text-to-image up to 30,000 and video up to 400 at 10s and 1080p.
It has 16K memory, a message length of 800 and the Deluxe models.
PRO Ultimate costs $199.99 once for 365 days, or $0.55 a day. It includes 150,000 credits and is unlimited otherwise. It covers text-to-image up to 75,000 and video up to 1,000 at 10s and 1080p.
It has 32K memory, a message length of 1000 and "All Unlocked!" models.
Ultimate is shown on the /price/ page but not in the in-app popup. So the most expensive plan is the one the app itself never offers, which is an odd way to run a shop.
The money math
Here is the arithmetic I do out loud. Three Standard passes in a row cost nearly as much as a full year of Premium, and Premium gives far more of everything. For anyone set on paying, Standard is the plan I'd skip.
Premium at $0.22 a day is the only price that sounds cheap, and it sounds cheap because it is a year paid up front. I'd never prepay a year to a site that names no company, whatever the daily figure looks like.
How the checkout works
Checkout starts with "Choose Payment": Checkout A, B, C or D, Pay by Bank, Crypto or In-App Purchase. The payment rails are unusual: gift cards via Eneba and VoltPay, G2A keys, crypto and bank.
For a one-time pass, I'd want one boring card form. Four lettered checkouts is how a flea market takes payment, not how a software company usually does.
Boosty, key shops and older prices
A Boosty page at https://boosty.to/chatupai offers subscriptions "to unlock more perks". The static /price/ page itself shows only "Limited-Time Subscription Offers! Subscribe on Boosty to unlock more perks!" and an FAQ, while the plan table is an iframe filled from an API.
The Boosty tiers are monthly and priced in roubles:
- Image Generator: 1399 RUB a month with 3000 credits a month.
- PRO - Get A Taste: 1499 RUB a month. It lists unlimited adult characters, an unfiltered image generator, Create AI 15/month, chat photo 1500/month, 15000 messages/month, text-to-image up to 150, text-to-video up to 6, image-to-video up to 2 and 4K chat memory.
- PRO - True Supporter: 2099 RUB a month. It lists Create AI 50/month, chat photo 5000/month, 50000 messages/month, text-to-image up to 450, text-to-video up to 18, image-to-video up to 6 and 8K chat memory.
- PRO - Deluxe: 3499 RUB a month. It lists unlimited Create AI, chat photos and messages, text-to-image up to 3000, text-to-video up to 120, image-to-video up to 40 and 16K chat memory.
- PRO - Ultimate: 4499 RUB a month. It lists unlimited Create AI, chat photos and messages, text-to-image up to 7500, text-to-video up to 300, image-to-video up to 100 and 32K chat memory.
So the same app is sold as a monthly subscription in roubles and as a no-recurring pass in dollars, with different allowances in each. I'd call that two price lists for one product.
Kinguin sells ChatUp CD keys named PRO Standard for 1 month and PRO Premium, Deluxe and Ultimate for 12 months. A G2A listing names a "Deluxe 129.99 USD" ChatUp gift card, while the site lists PRO Deluxe at $149.99.

Terms and privacy policy as published on 23 September 2026.
An older source from December 2025, a lead only, listed Monthly $14.99, Yearly $59.99 and Deluxe $149.99 a year. On 23 September 2026 the cheapest plan is $24.99 for 30 days and the cheapest 365-day plan is $79.99, so either prices rose or the old source was wrong.
Is the step up worth it?
In March 2025 I didn't pay, and the September 2026 price page does not change my mind. The plans are clearer than they were, but clearer is not the same as trustworthy.
If you are set on paying, Premium is the only plan where the numbers make sense. Pay the smallest amount the site allows, keep every screenshot, and assume the money is gone the moment it leaves your account.
What credits buy
Image generation costs 2 credits per image. A review site put an image at about 10 credits and a video at about 150.
On 23 September 2026 the generator charges 2 credits an image, so either the price fell or the review measured something else. Either way, I'd trust the live number over the article.
Credits are not deducted for the failed images. That is the fair outcome, and a small point in the site's favour after a prompt that produced nothing.
Credit packs
Credit packs for image and video are labelled "No Expiry". A pack of 3,000 credits costs $24.99. A pack of 20,000 credits costs $79.99 and adds Enhanced Speed. A pack of 80,000 credits costs $149.99 and adds Lightning Speed.
The money math is friendly on paper. At 2 credits an image, 3,000 credits is 1,500 images and 20,000 credits is 10,000, which is more pictures than anyone needs of one character.

What bothers me is the overlap. The pack prices match the plan prices exactly, while the plan cards list 600, 9,000 and 60,000 credits for the same money. Either the packs and the plans are one product described twice, or two products share a price tag, and nothing on the page says which.
The small print around credits
A "Transfer credits from App" link is offered for iOS and Android purchasers. That only helps if the apps can be found, and the friction section covers why that is doubtful.
The site's own pricing strings include "Get Credits", "Daily Credits" and "Generation Credits", plus labels for prices billed once and per-day prices over a year, but static pages show no credit costs. I'd read that as a shop with the price tags printed and left in the drawer.
Discounts, badges and the redeem button
There is no welcome popup. There is no daily check-in either, and no promo-code field for coupons. The only email after sign-up is the verification code; no welcome or coupon email arrives.
I'd call that quiet approach restful at first. No confetti, no countdown in the inbox, no discount that expires while you read it.
The quiet ends in the header, though. A "75% OFF" badge sits permanently in the app header. The Standard plan shows "Mega Sale-Limited Time" and "Was $29.9", a sale framing that looks permanent.
Do the math on that "was" price. Going from $29.9 to $24.99 is roughly a sixth off, nowhere near three quarters, so the badge and the plan card cannot both describe the same discount.
The site bundle's pricing strings include "Was $9.99" (weekly), "Was $19.99" (monthly) and "Up to 75% OFF!". Old "was" prices for plans the price page no longer shows make the whole column feel like set dressing.
What Redeem actually means
"Redeem" means entering a key bought on G2A. The steps are: top up the G2A balance, buy a key on G2A, paste the key.
That is three steps through someone else's shop to pay for this one. I'd compare it to buying a gift card at a gas station to pay a restaurant bill: possible, but it is not the way anyone would design it if the goal were a smooth checkout.
Offers by email
The pricing banner reads "One-time Payment. For offers- [email protected]", so offers are given on request by email. A discount you have to email for is a haggle, not a coupon.
My take: none of these discounts is worth chasing. The permanent sale is the real price, the redeem route adds risk, and the email offers depend on whoever answers the inbox.
ChatUp AI content settings and age checks
ChatUp AI presents itself as an adult-first product and says so in its own headline, which calls it an adult "AI Chat, Image & Video Generator". ChatUp AI NSFW content needs no switch: there is no content toggle for adult material at all.
The image generator's "No Filter" toggle is ON by default. In other words, the unrestricted settings are the starting point here, not a choice the user makes.
Age checks
The sign-up flow asks no age or birthday question. There is no adults-only confirmation step in the sign-up flow either.
The only age notices are a one-line notice on the homepage and the terms of service. The terms set the minimum age by self-declaration, under an entry disclaimer, and describe no ID check.
The image prompt box carries a warning that content breaking the age rule is strictly prohibited. A self-declared line and a warning label is the lightest age check I'd expect from a site of this kind. It keeps the legal wording tidy and does not do much more.
Adults only (18+). This page reviews AI companion apps with NSFW features; no explicit images are shown.
What the homepage shows
The homepage prominently features step-family characters and other taboo family scenarios. It also shows a peer-roleplay card and a named bot built on the same premise; neither was opened.
Other cards lean on power-imbalance themes built around authority figures. I'm not claiming any of this breaks a rule on its face. It is simply not a front page I'd want anyone to see over my shoulder.
Celebrity and real-person characters are advertised too, including a world-famous pop singer and a well-known VTuber. Real people did not agree to become characters on an adult site, and I'd skip every one of these cards on principle.
What the terms allow
The terms allow adult themes in private AI chats but ban content that violates legal regulations. That is the standard line for sites like this, and it only means something if someone enforces it.
My overall read: the settings are wide open by design, the age check is a sentence, and the storefront chooses its most provocative cards to greet visitors. If that is what you came for, you will find it quickly. If it is not, this is the wrong site.
ChatUp AI terms in plain English
Who runs it and where
No company legal name is given anywhere, only "ChatUp AI" or "Chat Up". Governing law is the Republic of Ireland, with courts in Ireland. The affiliate page lists a WhatsApp number with the +86 China code.
Access is banned in Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR. It is also banned in countries that ban adult content, such as Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
An Irish court, a Chinese phone number and no company name is a lot of geography for one website. If something went wrong, I'd have no idea who is on the other end of the contract.
The ToS was last updated in Feb 2025. For a site that has changed its plans, payment routes and features since then, that date alone tells me the terms are not being kept up.
Age and content rules
The terms are for adults only. Anyone below the minimum age is told to leave at once.
The terms ban AI-generated abuse material. They ban non-consensual fake images of real people. They also ban jailbreaking the safety filters.
Outputs with illegal content, non-consensual acts, animal abuse, hate speech or self-harm are, in the terms' words, "immediately blocked or removed". I can't judge how well that works, and the site does not say.
The terms also say all user-upload features, including image-to-video and face swap, "have been permanently removed" as of February 2025. Good rule; a pity the character wizard still shows an Upload button.
Refunds
Refunds are possible within 3 days of purchase. They require usage of at most 10 chat, image or chat-photo generations and at most 2 character creations or videos.
Requests are reviewed case by case in about 7 business days. They go to [email protected]. The refund page also says requests beyond 30 days are not considered, which sits oddly next to a 3-day window.
Ten generations is roughly one curious evening. I'd treat any purchase as final and read the refund policy as a courtesy rather than a promise.
Your content
Users keep ownership of what they generate but grant ChatUp AI a limited, non-exclusive licence to use, display and share public content for service improvements and safety filtering. That is a fairly ordinary clause, and it applies to public content rather than private chats.
There is no clear statement on training on chats. Silence is not a promise either way, so I'd assume nothing typed there is private in any meaningful sense.
Privacy
The privacy policy is written for a mobile "Chat Up" app. It names OpenAI, L.L.C. as the AI provider and Amazon for storage. It states, "We do not sell any of your personal data".
It keeps personal information as long as needed to run the service and meet legal obligations. It names Apple as the e-commerce provider and says card data cannot be accessed.
A privacy policy written for a different product is like a wedding contract with another couple's names on it. The words may be fine, but they are not about you. The web checkout runs mostly through gift cards, keys, crypto and bank transfers, so the reassurance about Apple handling card data does not describe most of what a web buyer sees.
Liability
Liability is capped at the amount paid in the prior 6 months. For a free user, that cap is effectively nothing, which is standard but worth knowing.
My summary of the terms: they cover the legal basics, contradict the pricing page on renewal, describe a different app on privacy and never say who the company is. I'd not trust them with anything I'd mind losing.
What got in the way
The name confuses things too: ChatUp AI, aichattings.com, and some review sites pointing to a parked chatup.ai domain. I had three tabs open trying to work out which one was real.
Three tabs for one product is the browser version of a client sending files named final, final-final and final-REAL. I did detective work instead of chatting, which is not how any product should start.
Domains and dead app links
The domain confusion is still there. chatup.ai redirects to a domain-sale page, and chatup-ai.org is a separate site; neither is linked from aichattings.com.
The linked iOS listings (id6742131355 and the older id6470002427) return no results, and the Google Play listing returns HTTP 404 in the US. A web site that links to apps that do not exist is a small thing, but small things add up.
Loading and layout
A SiteGround anti-bot layer intermittently returns "upstream request failed" on first load. A reload always gets through, and no CAPTCHA is shown.
The app lives in an iframe, so the layout is cramped. Every page carries heavy SEO text. A YouTube embed on the character page shows "Video unavailable".
Put together, the site looks like a content farm first and an app second. None of these would stop anyone on its own, but each one makes the place feel less looked after.

The checkout
Checkout A opens pay.voltpay.cash, a "VoltPay Support" chat. The chat tells the buyer to buy a $24.99 gift card on Eneba and paste the 16-character activation code there. It also says "Do not redeem it yourself".
Paying for software by buying a gift card from a third shop and pasting its code into a support chat is a pattern I'd associate with a scam call, not a checkout. I'm not saying it is one. I'm saying I'd never do it.
Upload and urgency
The Create AI wizard still shows an "Upload" option. The terms say upload features were removed, so either the terms or the wizard is out of date.
The sale framing, "75% OFF" and "Limited Time", is persistent fake urgency. A sale that never ends is just the price, dressed up.
My verdict on the friction: the confusing name cost me an evening, and today's checkout would cost me my nerve. I'd rather an app be plain and honest than busy and vague.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
ChatUp AI suits a narrow group, and the site's own positioning makes that clear. It is best for adults who want cheap-per-day adult roleplay plus image and video generation without a subscription, and who are comfortable with crypto or gift-card style payments.

It is not for users avoiding taboo or step-family content, or wanting safe-for-work companionship. The front page alone settles that. And it is not for anyone who wants a Discord or a community around the app.

Cancelling ChatUp AI and what to check before paying
There was nothing for me to cancel. I never paid, so my own exit was closing a tab. The question for anyone who does pay is harder, because the site gives two answers.
Subscription or one-time charge?
ToS section 4 says subscriptions "are subject to recurring payments" and can be cancelled "at any time through your account settings". The pricing and refund page says plans are one-time charges with "no need to be unsubscribed", which contradicts the ToS.
The pricing FAQ adds to the mix. It says a subscription can be cancelled at any time without any penalty. It also says promotional prices continue on renewal as long as the subscription is active.
So one page says there is nothing to renew, and another explains what happens when it renews. I'd treat every plan as if it might renew until a bank statement proves otherwise.
How cancelling is supposed to work
The refund policy says cancelling can be done in the account settings on the website or through customer support. The linked "How to Activate or Unsubscribe" help page returns "Page Not Found". A help page for leaving that does not exist is not a great sign.
Deletion and access requests go by email to [email protected], with a 45-day response time. Forty-five days is a long wait to have data removed, and it depends on someone reading that inbox.
The bank statement promise
The checkout promises "Security Protected. No adult transaction in your bank statement." Discretion is fine, but the promise does not say what name will appear instead, which is the thing a buyer checking a statement needs.
Before paying
Screenshot the plan card, the checkout page and any code you are given. Pay with a method you can dispute, check your statement a month later, and email support before the refund window closes if anything looks wrong. That is a lot of homework for one purchase, and it is the reason free is enough for me.
My tips
Start as a guest. Guest chat works without an account, and ten days of free use told me everything I needed to know about the site. There is no reason to hand over an email address before a character has earned a second evening.
Use it for what it does well. My best evenings were Spanish practice with a patient café owner, so pick a language character, set the tone to Natural and let it correct you.
Don't expect it to remember much. The café owner invented my order, and today's free memory holds a scene, not a relationship. Keep anything important in your own head.
Skip the video generator if hands matter to you, and they should. Use the poem tool for a laugh, and maybe don't tell your family where the rhymes came from.
Do not pay through gift cards, G2A keys or a support chat. If you must pay, take the smallest pass, screenshot everything and treat the money as spent.
Finally, check the address bar. Make sure you are on the right domain before typing anything, because the name points to more than one place.

Memory is weak on my own evidence and a little better today. Short-range recall works on the free model, but the free window holds a scene rather than a story, and the long memory sits behind paid tiers.
The free tier is good. Guest chat with no account is the best thing about the site, and chat did not eat credits in the check. The lack of published limits keeps it from a higher rating.
Value for money is weak because nobody can say clearly what is being bought, the plan cards and credit packs overlap, and the payment routes carry real risk.

How it compares with the other apps I used
The other apps in the table all got more of my time than ChatUp AI. Candy AI had five weeks, OurDream AI six weeks and Nomi AI nine months, while ChatUp AI got ten days before I stopped. That gap says most of what I think.
Where ChatUp AI is better: nothing in the table starts faster. Guest chat without an account is a real advantage, and for a quick language session it beats signing up anywhere else.

Where it is worse: everything that involves money. The other three sell ordinary plans with a cheapest monthly equivalent that fits neatly in one table cell. ChatUp AI sells one-time passes through gift cards, key shops and crypto, with a second price list on Boosty.
All four have a free tier, so free access is not what separates them. What separates them is whether I could tell what I'd be paying for, and here ChatUp AI is the only one where I never could.
On trust, it sits last. The others name who they are and take payment in the usual way. ChatUp AI names no company, and its privacy policy describes a different app.
If you came for a ChatUp AI girlfriend to keep, start with one of the others. If you want a free half hour of Spanish with a stranger behind a café counter, ChatUp AI is fine.

My last word on ChatUp AI
ChatUp AI gave me a patient Spanish tutor, a birthday poem my mother loved and an evening of wondering which website was the real one. That is a fair return on nothing spent.
What it never gave me was the feeling that someone was in charge. The front door is wide open, the shelves are crowded with lookalikes, the price tags change depending on which aisle you are in, and the till takes gift cards.
I don't regret the ten days. I'd just leave the wallet in the car. Treat it as a free sample from a shop you are not sure will be there next month, enjoy the sample, and keep walking.

Is ChatUp AI free?
Yes, and it is free in the most literal way: guest chat works without an account. A new account starts with 10 credits, the same balance a guest sees, and the free tier has the default models, 2K memory, 400-word replies and those 10 credits.
Text chat did not use credits in the check on 23 September 2026: the balance stayed at 10 after 3 chat messages, and no message limit was hit. The credits are for images and video, where one image costs 2 credits. The official site publishes no numeric free-tier limits, so nobody can say exactly where free stops.
I stayed on free for all 10 days, mostly because I never worked out what paying would buy. My advice is to treat free as the whole product: practise a language, try a few characters, make a handful of images, and leave before the upgrade buttons start to look reasonable.
Do I need an account to use ChatUp AI?
No. The homepage promises "free character AI chat with no sign up required" and "no login needed", and guest chat works exactly as advertised. My first night was a character within seconds and no forms at all, which felt almost rebellious after a morning of client intake paperwork.
An account is optional. Sign-up offers email and password, or Google, and a 6-digit code arrives by email and expires in 5 minutes. The whole flow takes about 3 minutes.
Guest chat history carries over into the new account, so starting as a guest costs nothing.
One detail to watch: the terms checkbox on the sign-up form is pre-ticked. I'd stay a guest until a character has earned a second evening, and only then hand over an email address.
How much does ChatUp AI cost?
On 23 September 2026 the /price/ page lists four PRO plans in USD. PRO Standard costs $24.99 for 30 days, down from a "was" price of $29.9. PRO Premium costs $79.99 once for 365 days. PRO Deluxe costs $149.99 and PRO Ultimate $199.99, each once for 365 days.
The prices are labelled "One-time Payment" and "No recurring payments!". Boosty also sells monthly tiers in roubles, from 1399 RUB for an image-generator tier to 4499 RUB for PRO - Ultimate. Credit packs for images and video run from $24.99 for 3,000 credits to $149.99 for 80,000.
In March 2025 I never pinned down the pricing, and I didn't pay. If I were paying today, Premium is the only plan where the arithmetic works, since three Standard passes cost nearly as much as a year of it.
Is ChatUp AI a subscription or a one-time payment?
It depends on which page you read, and that is the problem. The pricing page labels plans "One-time Payment" and "No recurring payments!", and the refund page says there is "no need to be unsubscribed".
The terms say the opposite. ToS section 4 says subscriptions "are subject to recurring payments" and can be cancelled through the account settings. The pricing FAQ says a subscription can be cancelled at any time without penalty, and that promotional prices continue on renewal.
Boosty, meanwhile, sells the app as a monthly subscription in roubles.

I would not pay, and I never did. The payment rails are unusual: gift cards via Eneba and VoltPay, G2A keys, crypto and bank transfer. Checkout A opens a "VoltPay Support" chat that tells the buyer to buy a $24.99 gift card on Eneba and paste the activation code into the chat.
It also says "Do not redeem it yourself".
The VoltPay gift-card checkout and the G2A key redeem are both notable consumer-risk signals. On top of that, no company legal name is given anywhere, and the privacy policy is written for a mobile "Chat Up" app. Refunds are only possible within 3 days and after light use.
None of this proves anything bad will happen. It does mean that if something goes wrong, there is no named company, no card dispute trail with gift cards, and a support chat as the only witness.
Is ChatUp AI the same site as chatup.ai?
No. ChatUp AI lives at https://aichattings.com/ under the brand "ChatUp AI". chatup.ai redirects to a domain-sale page, and chatup-ai.org is a separate site; neither is linked from aichattings.com.
The name confused me early on. ChatUp AI, aichattings.com and some review sites pointing to a parked chatup.ai domain left me with three tabs open, trying to work out which one was real. It is a small thing, but the browser equivalent of a client sending three files all named final.
The app store links add to the confusion. The linked iOS listings return no results, and the Google Play listing returns HTTP 404 in the US. If you want the real thing, type aichattings.com yourself rather than following a link from a review site, and check the address before entering an email or paying anything.
Does ChatUp AI remember past conversations?
A little. In March 2025 memory was short: my café owner forgot I'd ordered a cortado and offered me 'the usual', which she had invented. It was a continuity error in the most literal sense, and I stopped trusting her with anything longer than a verb.
Today looks better at short range. On 23 September 2026 a memory check passes: the bot recalls the city named a few messages earlier with "Dublin. Three delays, remember? I listen, sweetheart." A review site also found memory better than expected on the free tier.
The memory tiers in Settings are 2K on free, 4K on Standard, 8K on Premium, 16K on Deluxe and 32K on Ultimate. I'd read free memory as enough for a scene and not enough for a story, so keep anything important in your own notes.
What can you do on ChatUp AI besides chat?
Quite a lot, at least on paper. The site does more than chat: image generator, video generator, poem generator, essay writer, story generator. It felt like a flea market that sells both companions and homework help.
Chat, image, text-to-video and image-to-video sit together in one embedded widget.
The results were mixed. The video generator got about four minutes of my attention before the hands started melting into the cups. On 23 September 2026 a safe-for-work image prompt failed with a network error, and a retry produced nothing.
A review site found that a character's face drifts between images.
The poem generator was the surprise. I used it for my mom's 60th birthday card, it rhymed 'sixty' with 'Mississippi', and she loved it. I'd use the extras for fun and not pay for any of them.
